Green, from fear to love

 
 

我在維基百科查詢綠色,基本資訊如下:光的三原色之一,可經由藍色和黃色混和而成。和綠色相對的顏色是Magenta,而非傳統認為的紅色。綠色是一種中性色,既是暖色也是冷色。

短短幾行字,說出攝影與後製上的完全要點。同時,也是我早期害怕綠色的原因。是的,還在幾年前,我是非常害怕綠色的。

看以前照片,若得拍綠色景致或元素,後製時總減少此色的飽和度,要不降低亮度,壓得黑黑的。後來後製玩出趣味才明白,以黃、藍兩色調和而成的顏色,一不小心就顯髒;得從元素「黃」與「藍」下手,從根本調出理想的綠。

另外,也可以從影像中光與影區塊的顏色來琢磨,找出合適的綠色調。最重要的,若想強調照片清新芬芳的氛圍,並非一昧提高綠色的飽和度,而是得將此綠調成帶有冷色調的綠,才行。

前幾日回訪 Wilhelma Stuttgart,在植物園中盡情拍攝綠色植物,迫不及待回電腦將參訪時的氣氛與眼睛察覺的顏色透過後製呈現,並撰寫文章分享園區給予的腦袋神爽、清新快活的體驗。

I looked up "green" on Wikipedia, and here are the basics: it's one of the three primary colors of light, formed by mixing blue and yellow. Its complementary color is magenta, not the traditional red. Green is a neutral color, both warm and cool.

In just a few lines, it encapsulates the essence of photography and post-processing. It also reflects why I used to fear green so much. Yes, just a few years ago, I was genuinely afraid of green.

Looking at old photos, whenever I had to shoot green landscapes or elements, I always desaturated the color in post-processing or lowered the brightness, making it almost black. It wasn't until I started experimenting with post-processing that I realized how easily colors mixed from yellow and blue could turn muddy. I had to approach green from its fundamental elements, yellow and blue, to achieve the ideal shade.

Additionally, analyzing the colors of light and shadow in images helped me find the right green tone. Most importantly, if I wanted to emphasize a fresh and vibrant atmosphere in a photo, simply increasing the saturation of green wasn't the answer. Instead, I had to adjust the green to a cooler tone.

A few days ago, I revisited Wilhelma Stuttgart and eagerly photographed green plants in the botanical garden. I couldn't wait to return to my computer and use post-processing to capture the atmosphere and colors I perceived during my visit. I also wrote an article to share the refreshing and invigorating experience the park provided.
