情境攝影 | 與攝影師早午餐 Atmosphere Photography - Brunch with the Photographer
Whether it's a trip or a general weekend, it's an often-happen agenda that we go to a cafe or a restaurant to experience a nice moment. Especially nowadays, many cafes and restaurants have a good performance in interior design or atmosphere creation. Even the display of dishes is based on aesthetics, which makes people desire, and want to take pictures. However, I often receive messages asking how to take better atmosphere photos with a smartphone as I do.
So I thought, let’s go to a cafe ( or a restaurant) for the photography workshops! Simulate the real situation, take the food that orders by each person as the object, and then to practice creating beautiful photos. The original purposes of the "Brunch with the Photographer" and "Tea Time with the Photographer" are:
First, take scenes that often happen in life for practicing.
Second, using the photography skills that learn from the course into daily life.
Last time, there were more people than I expected applied for the workshops; I offered five courses in three different places on different dates. In the courses, I explained how to create beautiful images in different situations. There are some important keys in this article to help you to take better atmosphere photos. I hope that you will enjoy it and find it helps.
The key to driving us to visit cafes and restaurants is that the well-designed interior or the lovely atmosphere. However, when we are at the location, we sometimes do not know how to represent the touched feeling by taking pictures. (That is the question I often receive: I don't know how to make nice photos to present what is front of me.)
Some elements make us enjoying a scene: exquisite-designed details, well-arranged lights in space, harmonious and balanced colors, or unique and elegant furniture.
Then, try to capture only one feature in each photo, which means presenting different elements of a location in different images. So, every time you focus on one point. In this way, it is easier to create touched images.
For me, it is more important to "represent the taste of dishes" than to "take detail-cleared food photos". (But it does not mean that images are out of focus.) However, after the dishes are served, everyone just grabs the smartphone and photographs "headshots" from the plates. The photos show obviously what dishes we order; however, it lacks of charm.
If you want to take good food photos, there are two points to follow: "record the dining atmosphere" and "capture the relationship between food and dining location". When we think about an impressive dining experience, the most memorable one is usually the best atmosphere we experienced and the time we spent with someone special. So take a step back when taking food photos and bring in the sense that you notice in the site. Also, compose an image that includes a dish (dishes) and the interior; in this way, you will get rid of the food headshots and bring out the intention of "where and what" (location and event).
Many people like to take photos with food and dishes; however, it turns into headshots of people and food. How to take food photos that include people in a unique way? The best idea is to compose an image that combines the dining atmosphere. For example, the scene of chatting between friends, the moment of concentrating on dining, etc., try to capture the moments that impress you during an event. Moreover, it has more fun to catch the current dining moments. And I am sure that you can always enjoy warm and fresh food.
I have planned atmosphere photography courses on different dates, for those who are interested in the issue, feel free to click on the links below to get the information and make an appointment. Besides, to talk about the three key points above in the courses, I will also teach you how to edit photos and play with the natural light when taking pictures. Through these photography courses, you can learn my photography style and implement it in daily life. In the gallery, the images can show you how to refer to the three key points above.
